Hi, I’m Jules, known here as CU Green Trader. I’m a husband, a dad of two and I run an IT company. Trading is not my only income, and that is exactly what lets me take risk calmly: a bad run never decides how my family lives, and every trader meets bad runs.
How it started
My adventure began on 18 September 2012, the evening Real Madrid played Manchester City in the Champions League. I backed City to win. It felt like knowledge. It was a story.
For more than two years after that I did not make money. The first year was a loss. I read, I copied other people’s systems, I trusted matches I had “a feeling” about, and the results said the same thing every month.
What changed
What turned it around was not a better feeling for football. It was statistics.
- I started recording every bet and every trade, the losing ones as carefully as the winning ones
- I stopped judging an idea by its last few results and started asking how it did over whole seasons
- I learned to calculate how long a losing run a strategy can produce, and to size stakes so that run cannot break the bank
- I dropped strategies that only looked good in a lucky month, and kept the ones that held up on data they were not built on
My results improved when my decisions became rules I could test, not opinions I defended. Many posts on this blog are the notes from that process: strategies, their seasons, the losing streaks and what I changed.
Why ProSportsTrader
Doing all of this in spreadsheets took more time than the trading itself. So I built the tool I wanted to have: ProSportsTrader. It replays your rules on 14 seasons of results and closing prices, shows every season and the drawdowns next to the profit, and then picks today’s matches that fit.
If you have an idea you believe in, test it there before you stake money on it. It is free to start.
Why I write this blog
- For over two years I was a trader who did not make a profit. I sorted it out, and I think the way I did it can save someone else those years
- For my children, so one day they can read that patience, stubbornness and honest records produce results
- For my wife, who for a long time saw my trading as a hobby of gambling and filling in spreadsheets
- Because too few people share practical sports trading with real numbers behind it. Many show a screenshot of profit and hide what it took, or what it cost
I make mistakes too, and I describe them. Everything here comes from my own experience, which may be far from yours: take what fits your situation.
Thank you for reading. If a post raises a question, write to me.
